Expect to connect with a practitioner that will evaluate you holistically. You will have a detailed session addressing your birth history, family history, social history, lifestyle, diet, stress levels and environment.

Look for someone that has been certified by professional organizations. The most recognized organizations are IFM (Institute of Functional Medicine) Kalish Institute of Functional Medicine and ABFM (American Board of Functional Medicine)

Conventional medicine focuses primarily on treating acute injuries and symptoms, while Functional Medicine focuses on underlying causes and chronic conditions. Conventional medicine focuses on the body as separate systems, while Functional Medicine focuses on the body as inter-related systems where each body part is connected and affects the function of a separate body system.

Functional medicine treatments are based on scientific research and clinical evidence. However, some treatments may still be considered complementary or alternative and may not be widely accepted in conventional medical practice. It’s important to work with a qualified practitioner who can provide evidence-based recommendations.
